The small town of Tuz Khormato in the Province of Saladdin has been hit by yet another car bomb, bringing the total number of explosion there to 39 since the start of 2013, then newspaper’s record reveal.
Azzaman correspondent in Tikrit, the provincial capital of Saladdin, says two people were killed and 15 others were injured in the latest bombing.
Hundreds of people have been killed this year in this town which is predominantly inhabited by ethnic Turkmen.
The Turkmen like other Iraqi minorities have been the target of repeated attacks mainly al-Qaeda, which has made a strong comeback this year, mounting deadly attacks across the country.
The town is about 70 kilometers south of Kirkuk.
Though administratively within Saladdin’s provincial borders, Tuz Khormato is one of several towns which are part of the so-called “disputed territory,” which Kurds claim to belong to their semi-independent enclave in northern Iraq.
The central government refutes the Kurdish claim but the sparring is believed to be one reason in the upsurge of attacks in these areas.
Currently the territory bordering the Kurdish enclave and the areas the Kurds want to add to it are among the most violent in Iraq.
